What To Do With Daddy...

While walking the dog in the park this morning:

Josie: *SIGH* I don't know what I'm going to do with my daddy.
Granny: What? Why?
Josie: He's so sad *sigh*

Perhaps she picked up on my distress at having lost all my files from my hard drive over the weekend... I thought I took it pretty well personally.

Another One From Uncle Mat

During the Mother's Day lunch at Kam Fook, I left the table to take Josie to see the seafood tanks (later I thought this a bad move as it left mum free to embarrass me in my absence but I am told she restrained herself) as she was getting a little restless and had taken to sitting underneath the table and tickling peoples' legs. *grin* Some things Josie said on Mother's Day before I forget them:

Mat: Look Josie! Fishies!
Josie: Yeah! BIG fishies!
Mat: And lobsters!
Josie: Yeah! I like lobsters! Don't like crabs (eyeing the tank above the lobsters filled with crabs).
Mat: And here are more fish ..
Josie: SNAKES!
Mat: Sort of .. these are eels. They're like snakes but they live underwater.
Josie: Snakes.
Mat: Eels.
Josie: Snakes!
Random child also looking at the tank (quietly): Eels.
Mat: Fine have it your own way.
Mat (lifting her up over the one tank that was open at the top): Want me to put you in with the fishies?
Josie: Nooooo!
Mat: Why not?
Josie: The fish will bite me!
Mat: Oh .. ok then.

Then she wanted to wander into the upstairs area but people were coming down the stairs constantly and I didn't want her to get stepped on. I suggested we go see what mummy and daddy were up to. She thinks about this for a moment and then nods her head and waves her hand imperiously with a "Take me to mummy and daddy" .. you can almost hear her saying "lackey" at the end...

Josie's Snakes and Ladders

Josie showed Uncle Mat how to play Josie's Snakes and Ladders yesterday.

Mat says: interesting rules
Mat says: Rule 1: If the dice rolls off the board, it's no good and must be rolled again.
Mat says: Rule 2: Whatever the dice shows after being rolled is irrelevant.
Mat says: Rule 3: Josie shalt place the pieces on the board at random. (Though usually with her winning from the start)
Mat says: Rule 4: Nobody but Josie shalt move the pieces once they're on the board. And they shalt be moved randomly according to Her wishes.
Mat says: Rule 5: The pieces shalt not be stuck on the ends of fingers and waggled humorously. They are meant to be on the game board and She will get quite cross if they're removed.
Mat says: Rule 6: There is to be no poking or tickling of The Josie during the game. This is serious business after all.
Mat says: Rule 7: The Josie shalt play the game without shoes and socks on on a cold night. When told to put them back on and asked if she wanted to sit in the naughty spot, she replies that "My mummy said YES!"
Mat says: I am unsure as to whether that was an answer to the former or the latter.

heheheh..

Mornings Are Getting Better !

This morning was the first time since the first two days that Josie started at her new school that there was no crying !

Her lip thrust out, but she held strong and there was no crying! I was very impressed!

There was meant to be a Fireman Visit to the preschool today but it was called off on account of the rain this morning. What a shame, she was really looking forward to sitting in the fire truck and wearing the firemans hat!

Yesterday was a nice step back to routine for Josie when Granny picked up both Becka and Josie from school and then Vika picked them up from Granny's and took them both home and Josie got to spend time at Vika's place again. She had been saying over the last week or so that she was missing going to Vika's after school. So it was nice for her to get back to that.

Tony and I are getting more and more prepared for our first Open House on June 17th. We have quite a bit of decluttering and cleaning to go, but we are getting there. I am eager to just get on with it. Auction is on July 8th.

It will be nice when we don't have to drive for ages to get home.

Thats about it from me.. Josie is sleeping at Granny's tonight so Tony and I are going to see Da Vinci Code and Xmen. Haven't been to see a movie in far too long. Can't wait.

Josie : Too Cool For Orange (Green barely holds onto street cred)

So I'm driving Josie around on Saturday so that we're both out of the house while the cleaner is working on the joint. And we're heading to the East to pick up Uncle Mat and go grab some home networking stuff for Granny when Josie and I had this conversation:

Josie: *mumble mumble* like Orange?
Daddy: Hmm? You like orange?
Josie: *Cagey noise which could be taken as yes followed by* Do _you_ like orange?
Daddy: Yeah, I like orange. [cos, y'know; I wanna encourage the kid]
Josie: I don't like orange. [Damn kids]
Josie: I like Blue an' Red an' Lellow an PURPLE!!!!
Daddy: What about Green?
Josie: *shrugs* 'ts alright.

Eurovision Night !

We had a fantastic time at Ines' on Sunday night for our annual Eurovision Night !

We had just the original members of the group, Brig, Ines, Dave, Tony and Myself, except we were missing Harri, but we had her comments printed out so she was there in spirit!

This years Eurovision was so much better than last year! Most of the acts were great and we got into them straight away, unlike most years where it really takes a few goes through the CD in the car to get into them.

A few points though:

Finland: How the HELL did Finland win?? Tony was just beside himself! Heavy metal/rock band, winning Eurovision, its unheard of! The song is catchy, but having listened to it twice today on the CD (which I got this morning!), its starting to give me a headache!

Israel: How the HELL did they only get 4 points? Are people MAD? The song was fabulous! The singer wonderful! (An African American singing in Hebrew for Israel?? What the ?)

Germany: An Aussie chick singing lead from Newcastle! Woohoo! And really, listening to it again today, I absolutely LOVE the song. I dont usually go for Country music, but this one is SO catchy! Love it!

Denmark: Love it! Very very boppy/catchy!

France: Ho hum.. ANOTHER ballad.. what a surprise..

UK: On the night, it didn't really grab me completely.. I liked it, but now I LOVE it!

Lithuania: I cannot believe they sang a song about winning Eurovision! AND its good! Hugely fun and catchy song!

Latvia: UGH! YUCK! Acappello should only be performed by people who can SING ACAPPELLO!

Moldova: Another good one that grows on you!

Macadonia (Why oh why can they not just call it Macadonia?! FYR Macadenia is just too long!!): Another good one!

Romania: Can anyone say Numa Numa Dance?! How much did that sound like Numa Numa?? Having said that, it was damn good!

Russia: Came second.. eh.. catchy.. eh..

Sweden: What happened?! Did this year's entry NOT consult the National Academy of How To Perform ABBA-like hits?! Very disappointing!

Turkey: As Harri says - There are NO natural blondes in Turkey! LOL

Ukraine: I think Ukraine paid far too much attention to last year's winners!

Ok, those are the ones I wanted to mention.. and I really didn't like the new voting procedure.. I understand why they only announce the highest 3 scores, I mean 37 countries voting would have taken till next week, but it just makes the whole thing too fast! You can't see the progression of the winner. Personally I liked it better when they only had the countries in the final voting.

Aaaanyways.. my prediction for next year? A lot of rock/heavy metal numbers ;-( This is the beginning of the end of Eurovision I'm afraid!

Lets get back to embarassing ABBA-like acts!

Daddy Strikes Again !

On Sunday we took Josie to the playground at Fox Studios (which they're trying to rebrand as "The Entertainment Quarter") where I added to my (mercifully short) list of "Daddy's less inspired parenting moments".

I was spinning Josie around on a piece of equipment that is a triangular (except the straight edges are rounded) platform about 2 foot wide with a shaped pole (some are simple S cirves some are more complicated) running up the middle. The kid sits on the platform and the adult (or the kid themself if they are old enough) spins the pole and the kid spins 'round. Well, I started experimenting with how fast she would go before she would not like it. I know, I know. Curiosity and the cat and all that. To be fair I wasn't just experimenting with my kid. She had previously started showing a predilection for spinning rides (the spinning cups ride and suspended-chair style merry-go-round (sp?). This started in the last 2 months and before that she had always disliked spinning rides when I had taken her (very seldom) on them. Also she has started to like going really high/fast on the swings which I think is a similar sensation to spinning in people (like myself) who dont like that kind of acceleration feeling in the stomach.

So anyway, she has become a bit of an acceleration junkie in the last couple months so I was seeing if she had a limit. Well as you have probably guessed by now I found her limit. Unfortunately even though I was increasing the speed by small increments she went from "Weeeeeeeeeee" to shaking like she was having an epileptic fit or an embelism with a terrified rictus on her face, instead of "Weeeeee" to "slower daddy!" like I was expecting. I swear I thought I had given her an aneurism she was shaking so bad. I totally thought I broke her for a second.

Some of you have heard my (apparently humorous) description of how the child's mother falls when tripped (no not by me, just by her own lack of ability to remain upright in the face of cunningly flat surfaces). And how as horrifying as it is to see someone you love go down like a sack of spuds, when they go down with hands shot straight up into the air above their heads like a tall-timber, well at the time it's happening it is still horrifying but once you know they are ok... funny as hell. Well this thing with Jose was nothing like that. This was just horrifying. Full stop. But the kid recovered alot more quickly than her old man did (as usual) and was back to normal after some reminding about the more enjoyable pony ride she had had just prior to the horror inflicted upon her by her schmuck of a father. I continued to flagellate myself for some time.

Dream Bike

The same night that Mari mentioned Josie's unnerving sleep-clapping incident (which I was not present for) I woke up as Josie was moving about a bit and making some noises as she slept between us.
Having been informed of the disturbing clapping habit I settled in and waited for something amusing to happen. And I was not disappointed.

Josie, like her mother, is always hot and takes every opportunity to strip off all her clothes and parade around naked. In terms of sleeping this translates to constantly throwing the covers off (both herself and us when she is in with us) and sleeping on top of them. Usually she will kick her legs out in an effort to get the sheets off. This night however, she had earlier been riding her new bike (thanks Martin) around outside with mummy and the kicking seemed to lead her into a riding dream as she went from laying on her back, kicking at the covers and rubbing her eyes (which she does habitually when she is having trouble sleeping) to holding her hands just in front of her chest and running her feet in increasingly rapid circles above her just like she was speeding down the drive on her bike. This went on for about 10 seconds and got to such a pace that I thought for sure she was going to knee herself in the face before she slumped back, apparently exhausted by her dream bike ride, with a look of quiet contentment on her angelic little face.

It was the funniest thing I have seen baring the tallest-tree-in-the-forest impression her mother does immediately before falling on her face.

Slowly, Slowly

Just a quickie today..

We are stopped at lights on the way to kindy this morning..

Josie: Go!
Mari: No sweetie, the light is red. Can you see the light is red?
Josie: Yes..
Mari: And what does red mean?
Josie: Stop..
Mari: that's exactly right! And what does green mean?
Josie: Go!
Mari: Right again! And what does orange mean?
Josie: slowly, slowly..

that's so cute ;-)

My Daughter The Artistic Genius !

This morning at Kindy, before I left for work, Josie said she was going to draw me a picture of me.

She did it all herself, and I just wrote her name and the date at the bottom.

I was floored.

Its amazing! Well I think so ;-)

Goodbye My Love..

I forgot to mention in yesterday's blog..

Miss Josephine decided that mummy needs a new camera on the weekend and prompty dropped my beloved Kodak.. so I quickly listed it:

Kodak Listing on Ebay

And I am now in the market for a new camera.. I want at least 6mp, plus at least a 2.2" screen, over 3x Optical Zoom and most importantly, I want the video resolution to be 640x480.

Oh and my pet peeve is the pause you get with some Sonys between when you press the button and when the camera actually goes off..

So if anyone has any suggestions/recommendations I would love to hear them !

A Busy Weekend

All of us had a huge weekend.

Firstly, Josie had a good day at school on Friday. After the Mothers Day Breakfast she played with the toys and with the other kids. In fact when Granny picked her up she was playing with 3 boys (Daddy is making quiet enquiries into shotgun licenses ;-). Apparently they were playing chasings and Josie was having a great time ;-)

Saturday, in preparation for the sale of our home, which has now moved from beginning June, to end of June, I took Josie to Vika's which Tony and I made a good stab at painting and decluttering.

While Tony painted the cornices, which look much better, I made inroads into the third bedroom (formerly known as Becka's room, now known as the spare room). I think we did a great job.

Because of the painting in Josie's room she has been sleeping with us the last couple of nights. Thank god for the King bed! Having said that, she is still sleeping right up against me! I thought I might trick her and changed sides with Tony while she was already asleep, but you can't fool her! She *still* migrated over to me through the night. It must be the warmth ;-)

She scared the spit outta me last night, I was just falling asleep when she started moving around and rubbing her eyes, which is normal. But then out of nowhere she clapped her hands three times, right out in front of her, and then rubbed her eyes again, turned over and continued sleeping! Geez!!! Freaked me right out!

So tonight we will put her room back together and she can go back to her own bed and stop scaring mummy!

Ok so back to Saturday, we spent all day doing that, and then at 530pm went to Vika's for a Pre Mother's Day dinner with my parents. It love a lovely Chinese dinner, and then Vika handed me this (on paper):

Your daughter – chatterbox, talking non stop on any subject you like, here is sample after driving in the car with Josie for a little while:

1. Josie: I went to doctor and doctor brushed my hair. I need to go to doctor. I need big hair like Beckas. I need to go to doctor. Mummy took me to doctor. Now its your turn to take me to doctor.

2. Driving past a man walking 2 dogs.
Josie: Rascal is a doggie, a boy doggie.
Josie: He has a friend, doggie friend, boy doggie. He is a small doggie and Rascal likes to bite him.
Josie: He likes to play with Kitty Kitty. I told him not to touch Kitty Kitty, he was going to touch Kitty Kitty. He listened to me.

3. Rebecca going home to clean the house, talking to Josie about it.
Becka: You are going home to clean your house!
Josie: No Way!!!
Becka: Why not?
Josie: Because I am not big enough yet, I am still little now!
Becka: When are you going to be big?
Josie: At Vicka’s house

Ok so she's a little talkative.. gets it from her father ! Actually, gets it from her Deda !

So that was Saturday.

Sunday was Mothers Day and we went to Kam Fook for Yum Cha with Mat & Wendy, Gloria, Wendy's parents and Jacqui. It was yummy! Josie was on her best behaviour and sat at the table and had her lunch.. I was very proud of her ;-)

The afterwards I took her grocery shopping while Tony went and finished the painting.

When we got home I took Josie downstairs to ride her bike for a while and then when we came back up Tony gave me my mother's day present. It was a gorgeous Nursery Rhyme and Bedtime Story book set for just me and Josie to read. I thought it was a lovely thought.

We straight away lay down on the bed and I read to her. It had the correct effect, except on the wrong person! *I* then fell asleep and Josie went off to the living room while I napped for about an hour. That was nice!

So that was pretty much our weekend. Next weekend we have to deal with the garage and then we can start moving stuff into boxes and down to the garage.

Oh what fun!

Mother's Day Breakfast at the School

We had a lovely morning this morning.

Josie woke up at about 615am which was perfect cause we had to get to the school by 730am.

Got her all dressed (with her telling me again that she had a tummy ache because she was scared to go to school) and into the car by 7am.

In the car I put on my ipod as usual and when Make a Move on Me by Olivia Newton John came on, we had a funny conversation:

Josie: This is The Wiggles!
Mari: The Wiggles? No, I think its Olivia Newton John..
Josie: No way! Its not... Jack.. and John... ! Its The Wiggles!
Mari: Ok honey, its The Wiggles..

lol

And then a bit later, Josie puts her sunglasses on her head..

Josie: What you think mummy?
Mari (looking back): You look COOL !
Josie: Yeh..

And a bit later.. Josie puts her sunglasses on properly..

Josie: What you think mummy?
Mari (looking back again): I think you look very COOL!
Josie: Yeh, I are a COOL DUDE!
Mari: Yes you are a cool dude bubby!
Josie: Yep I am !

Hehehe..

So we get to the school and park down by the pre-school. The breakfast is actually about halfway up the hill in the hall, but you can't get into the school via the side gate so we had to walk up the hill into the school and then back down half way to the hall. I don't know how the kids do it every day.. its SO steep !

We were about 15 mins late but Becka met us there and Josie was very happy to see her. We had some breakfast, and then watched the senior kids have their Shabbas service which Josie loved and was clapping along to to the songs.

Then we went down to the pre-school and I played with Josie for a bit, and then had to go. She cried a bit when I said I was leaving but settled down pretty quickly.

And thats it.. it was a lovely morning..

Back On The Right Track..

Well we had a better morning today..

Josie was a bit upset at the thought of me leaving when I got to school with her but I sat down and played with her for about 10 minutes before I left. She enjoyed that, and while she still cried a bit when I was leaving, she had stopped by the time I reached the front door.

I think she has realised that its a new place and she feels lonely.

I asked her if there was something she didn't like at school and she said her tummy hurt. Now she was pretending that her tummy hurt on Monday and I think what she means is she was feeling scared and nervous at the prospect of us leaving her there. I asked her about this and she confirmed that yes she was scared that we would leave her there and not pick her up. I told her that we would always, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, pick her up. That Granny would pick her up from school and either daddy or I would pick her up from Granny's. She seemed to understand this and felt better. I told her that her tummy probably hurt because of her feeling scared and she agreed.

Hopefully by talking about it it would make her more comfortable there.

I think it will just take some time.

Unfortunately it has coincided with a time in our lives when something else big is happening, selling our unit. This means we have to spend the next few weekends frantically painting and decluttering. Josie needs to be out of the place at that time because when she is home, especially now, she wants us to play with her. So I think the seperation anxiety is going to get worse over the next few weeks. We are going to aim to spend at least one day of the weekend with her.

I am getting more and more stressed about the sale and the move.

There is so much to do to prepare for the first Open Day. I am so worried we wont get ready in time.

Wish us luck !

An Unhappy Start to the Week

Josie has obviously realised that she is not going back to her old kindy..

Tony went to drop her off on Monday morning and instead of throwing a tantrum she was just very upset and wimpering. She wouldn't let Tony go and started saying that she had a tummy ache (which she later admited that she made up) and he was concerned at her extremely unhappy and agitated state so in consultation with the teachers, he took her to his mums place for the day.

We will now go back to 3 days a week, Mon, Wed, Fri, until we can see that she has adjusted. The teachers told Tony that the other kids her age went around 3 days a week as well, which I wasn't told, in fact I was told that she would adjust.

So she had a good time at Granny's on Monday and then Granny took her to school this morning. She had a tantrum, which stopped a little after Granny left, and after that had a great time.

When Tony picked her up and they got home she said she had a great time at school, she painted and that she played with her friend Rachel.

Tomorrow she will go to Baba's, Thursday I will take her to school and Friday we will go to the Mother's Day Breakfast at the school.

I hope she settles in soon..

On a happier note, her vocabulary is just exploding. Its so good to be able to commun icate properly with her.

Now I should really post some photos, cause I haven't done that in ages.. I will add some photos to my last blog cause they will go with the story there. Please check back with the last blog for new photos ;-)

A Big Catchup and Big School !

Good lord it has been a long time since I last blogged!

Lets start from Monday and work backwards..

Monday Josie started at The Pre School. It is just fabulous and we are so beyond thrilled that she will be going to The School for the next 14 years!

So I dropped Josie off at the school on Monday morning and she immediately went off to play. One of the teachers showed me around and then I spoke to the director and registrar for a while. I showed Josie where the toilets were (gorgeous little kids toilets and sinks) and she went and went off to play outside. After a minute or so she comes running back in.. “Mummy! Where is my hat?!”. LOL. I had told her before that she couldn’t go outside to play without a hat. What a good girl ;-)

So I left her there and went to work. Of course I was completely distracted the whole time wondering how she was going. Luckily I had updates from Becka cause she went and visited Josie at recess and lunchtime and was very happy to see Becka and played with her for a while.

I left work at about 245pm to go and pick her up and when I got there at 315pm, she was ASLEEP on the cot!! I couldn’t believe it! Unfortunately I had to wake her up because the centre closes at 330pm, but she was happy to see me and off we went to Baba’s.

She had a great time at school and is very proud of the fact that she is at ‘Becka’s Big School’ now.

Meanwhile we are meeting with our real estate agent tomorrow night to finalise things and get the unit on the market by the end of the month. And we are looking at sales and rentals in The East..

So going back to the weekend, we met up with our friends Roman and Helen and their daughter Stacey who is a year younger than Josie, at Fox Studios to go to Lollipops. The girls had a fantastic time at Lollipops and when they left we continued out to the back where they had set up lots of big jumping castles and mechanical rides and a petting zoo and Ponies!

Well! Josie had a fabulous time! She went on a bunch of Jumping Castles and then decided she wanted to go on the Mechanical rides! Now one of them was a spinning seat thing that went around quite quickly. I was very surprised that she wanted to go on and I told her that I wouldn’t be able to go with her and that if she got scared she would have to wait until they stopped the ride. She was adamant that she wanted to go on it. So she did. And she just loved it ! I was floored! So she went on the other one as well and that was a spinning one where the seat itself spins as well, and she loved that too.

So then we went in the petting zoo and she petted all the animals, admittedly Tony and I had the most fun feeding them and holding the bunnies. Awwww ;-)

And after that, after taking one look at the Ponies and wanting nothing to do with them, Josie decided she did want to go on a Pony, so she had a pony ride as well! And she loved that too!

So that was a huge day for Josie. She was absolutely knackered when we got into the car and fell asleep almost immediately.

Now going back even further..

The first couple of weeks of April we had my best friend visiting from the USA. Harri moved away to California about 6 years ago but comes and visits a couple of times a year. We miss her greatly when she is gone but are very happy for her new life in the USA.

So we had a fabulous time with Auntie Harri, with Josie getting to know her all over again. Josie is still asking about when she is going to see ‘Hawwi’ again ;-)

That’s pretty much it for now.. it has been insanely busy at work which is the main reason why its been so long since I last blogged. I usually do it at work.

So now we enter another phase in our life.. selling again, renting and then buying. Fun fun fun! It will be so good to be living near family though.. we have been living in the North for almost 10 years now.. it will be devastating to move, but its also nice to be going somewhere new..

So hopefully it wont be as long to my next blog!
